Two charged with drug crimes, gun possession, car theft and more

In Arkansas, drug crimes are taken very seriously with harsh penalties for those who are convicted of them. The circumstances will inevitably vary with every case. For example, a person might be arrested with a minimal amount that was likely for personal use. Another might find him or herself in trouble with the law with an amount that is significant and is believed to have been earmarked for sale or distribution. Regardless, those who are placed under arrest for drug crimes should make sure they have a strong defense in place.

Two people were arrested after a police chase in which law enforcement alleges they found drugs and a stolen gun. The vehicle the suspects were in was also stolen. A law enforcement officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a pickup truck when the vehicle sped away. The officer gave chase. It is alleged that the people in the vehicle threw a bag out the window as they tried to get away. The bag had an estimated 1.4 pounds of methamphetamine in it. There were also prescription pills. A gun was also thrown out the window.

After the vehicle was stopped, the people who were in it tried to run away on foot. They were subsequently caught and arrested. A male, 27, and a female, 22, were brought into custody. They have been charged with drug trafficking for the methamphetamine, possessing drugs and firearms, fleeing, and other charges. The couple had active warrants when they were arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

People who are placed under arrest for drug charges will often face other charges along with it. For example, those accused of drug trafficking will also have weapons. Methamphetamine is a Schedule II drug. This implies the seriousness with which law enforcement treats its possession and sale. The circumstances of any case will determine the level of charges faced by those arrested. Given the harsh penalties that will be assessed if there is a conviction of drugs and weapons charges, it is vital that those who are accused and face charges have legal assistance.

In this incident, two people who already had warrants were placed under arrest for drug trafficking, weapons possession, car theft and fleeing officers among other charges. Since these accusations are so substantial, it is critical for them to speak to a legal professional who specializes in defending those arrested on drug crimes as soon as possible to begin planning their defense.
